I thought I would take a moment to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Hopefully you can take some time to spend with family and relax. As for me, that is exactly the plan! It is time to rest and recharge.  September was a busy month and the multiple closings coming up are proof that the market was very active.  Things seemed to have quieted a bit but houses that are priced for the current market seem to still be moving depending on the location.

Looking for something to do? Well a fall fair could be a great way to spend time with the family this weekend.  Norwood, Ontario (Oct. 11-13, 2025). For details, see www.norwoodfair.com.  I have heard great things about this one, so let me know what it's like. 

Are you getting excited for Halloween?  We are, as it's one of our favourite holidays.  Once again, I will be sponsoring the Zombie Walk downtown Marmora, Ontario, in the Forsyth Street Parkette from 5:00-7:00 pm.  It's a new display this year and will sure to give you the heebie jeebies if you like that sort of thing! Don't worry the Zombies don't smell young children and get a treat for participating! Also new this year, is where you dress up as a Zombie and send a picture to bellsfindsyourwhistles@gmail.com with your contact information.  Your name will go into a draw for a $75 restaurant gift card. You have until midnight on Oct. 31 to submit your photos. At the same time as the Zombie Walk, is the Lions Trunk & Treat so there will be no shortage of candy to be had for all.

1. Clean Gutters and Downspouts

• Remove leaves, pine needles, and debris so water can flow freely.

• Check that downspouts direct water at least 3–4 feet away from your foundation to prevent leaks or basement flooding.

2. Inspect and Seal Windows & Doors

• Check for drafts and seal gaps with caulking or weatherstripping.

• Consider adding storm windows or plastic film insulation kits to improve energy efficiency.

3. Service the Heating System

• Have your furnace, boiler, or heat pump professionally serviced.

• Replace filters and test the thermostat.

• If you have a fireplace or wood stove, have the chimney cleaned and inspected for creosote buildup.

4. Protect Exterior Plumbing

• Drain and disconnect garden hoses and shut off outdoor faucets.

• If you have an in-ground sprinkler system, blow out the lines to prevent freezing.

5. Check the Roof and Flashing

• Look for loose or missing shingles, cracked flashing, or signs of moss growth.

• Repair any issues before snow and ice make it worse.

6. Clean and Inspect Eaves, Soffits & Vents

• Clear debris from attic vents and soffits for proper airflow.

• Ensure attic insulation is dry and adequate to prevent ice dams.

7. Test Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors

• Replace batteries and test all detectors, especially since heating systems and fireplaces will be in use more often.

• Consider installing a CO detector if you don’t already have one.

8. Prepare Lawn and Landscaping

• Rake leaves, aerate and fertilize your lawn, and trim dead branches (especially near your roof or power lines).

• Store patio furniture or cover it for the winter.

9. Check Weatherstripping on Garage Doors

• Ensure the bottom seal is tight to keep out cold air, moisture, and pests.

• Lubricate moving parts with silicone spray or light oil.

10. Stock Up on Winter Supplies

• Buy salt or sand for icy walkways.

• Make sure snow shovels, the snowblower, and emergency kits are ready.

• Check that exterior lighting works for shorter days.
