History

Marmora and Lake is a township in Hastings County, Ontario, with a rich history rooted in mining and railroads. Established in the early 1800s, the area quickly grew due to the discovery of iron ore and other minerals. Marmora was once home to one of Canada’s first ironworks, and remnants of its mining legacy, such as the iconic open-pit mine known as the Marmora Mine, still attract attention. The township was officially formed in 2001 through the amalgamation of the Village of Marmora and the Township of Marmora and Lake.

In winter, snowmobiling, ice fishing, hockey, and cross-country skiing are common pastimes.
